Addison Named Co-MVP on Day Three of ACCITF

BLACKSBURG, Va. - On Saturday, Feb. 28, the NC State track and field team wrapped up competition at the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Indoor Track and Field Championships. The women’s team finished in sixth with 55.59 points, and the men’s team finished in a three-way tie for ninth with 29 points.
Jonathan Addison led the way for the men’s team, earning Co-MVP with 23 points, and Alexis Perry recorded 14 points for the women. The women’s team improved three sports from last year’s ninth place finish, while the men finished one place higher than last year.

On the women’s team:
“On the women’s side, we had good balance. There is only about three running and three field events that we didn’t score in, so that shows good balance in the program. The team is close to being in the top four in the conference.”
On the men’s team:
“On the men’s side, Jonathan Addison was the MVP in the field events and deservedly so. Scoring in three events is an outstanding performance any year in track. We are making improvements. We have some young kids and they will continue to get better.”
MVP:
For his performances in the long jump and high jump, Addison was named Co-MVP in the men’s field events. He is NC State’s first MVP for field events since 2007.
Addison capped off his sensational tournament with a strong performance on the track. The Raleigh, N.C., native showed off his speed as he finished fourth in the 60m dash with a time of 6.83. His mark set a new personal best.
During the ACC Championships, Addison carried the men’s team – scoring 23 of the men’s 29 points. The junior won gold in the high jump and silver in the long jump during Friday’s events. He is also poised to compete at the NCAA Championships in the long jump.
Sprints:
Quashawn Cunningham was the second scorer for NC State in the men’s 60m dash. Cunningham finished eighth with a time of 7.02. The freshman had a sensational first indoor season for the Wolfpack, tallying nine top-10 finishes and one top-10 time in the 60m dash in NC State history.
In women’s sprints, Paisley Simmons picked up fifth-place finishes in the 60m dash and 200m dash. After placing near the bottom of the preliminary standings, the sophomore moved up in the final rounds in each event.
She set a personal best in the 200m with a time of 24.09 and came within .01 seconds of her personal best in the 60m with a time of 7.50. The High Point, N.C., native finished the tournament with eight points for the women’s team.
3,000m
After an All-ACC performance in the 5,000m on Friday, Erika Kemp posted a top-10 finish in the 3,000m. Kemp finished just outside of earning points with a ninth-place finish of 9:24.36. The Mount Holly, N.J., native finished the tournament with six points.
Samantha George, who anchored the women’s DMR team to bronze on Thursday, also ran in the 3,000m. George finished 12th with a time of 9:33.01.
On the men’s side Graham Crawford finished ninth with a time of 8:09.92, and Jacob Thomson was right behind in 10th with a time of 8:10.00. Thomson’s mark set a new season high as he concludes his debut indoor season.
60m Hurdles:
Perry posted a fifth-place finish in the women’s 60m hurdles. She finished with a time of 8.49, and earned four points for the women’s team. After winning gold in the long jump on Friday, The junior earned 14 of the women’s 55.50 points.
Triple Jump:
In field events, Javonne Antoine added an eighth-place finish to score points for the Pack women’s team. The freshman turned in a personal best mark of 40’4.25” in her final indoor meet of indoor season season.
Up Next:
The team will await the completion of all qualifying meets. Any NC State student athlete ranked in the top-16 of national standings will travel to Fayetteville Ark. for the 2015 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 13-14.
