Five Straight Wins: NC State 58, Davidson 42

RALEIGH – The NC State women's basketball team (5-0) picked up its fifth straight win on Sunday afternoon, defeating visiting Davidson by a final score of 58-42. The victory marked the second time in three seasons under head coach Wes Moore that the Wolfpack has started a season 5-0.
Sunday's victory also marked the second time this season (High Point) and sixth time during Moore's tenure that the team has held an opponent to less than 50 points.
The Wolfpack was led offensively by 15 points from Jennifer Mathurin. She was joined in double figures by Dominique Wilson (13) and freshman Amber Richardson (11). Three Wolfpack players pulled down at least seven rebounds in the contest, as Carlee Schuhmacher (eight rebounds), Ashley Williams (seven), and Mathurin (seven) attacked the glass well.

NC State pounded the ball into the paint throughout the first quarter, scoring 10 points inside en route to a 19-8 lead at the end of the frame. The Pack then extended its lead as high as 15 points (29-14) when Mathurin sank a three with 3:23 to play in the second quarter before taking a 31-18 advantage into the halftime break.
All 11 of Richardson's points game in the final 20 minutes of the contest, as she went a nearly spotless 4-5 from the floor in the second half. The Wolfpack stretched its lead as far as 26 points (55-29) on a Richardson three-pointer with 6:40 left in the game, but the Wildcats closed the contest on a 13-3 run to arrive at the final count of 58-42.
NC State now heads south of the border to compete in the 2015 Cancun Challenge. The Wolfpack will take on a strong Seton Hall team on Thursday, November 26 at 6:30 p.m. before closing out the tournament against UAB on Friday at 4 p.m.
