RALEIGH – The NC State men's basketball team picked up its first win of the season with an 88-70 victory over South Alabama. The Wolfpack had four players reach double-digit scoring and the defense limited South Alabama to just 31.5 percent shooting from the floor.
Â
Key Stats: Caleb Martin led the team in scoring with 19 points. The sophomore shot 7-for-10 from the floor, going 4-for-6 from 3-point range.
Â
Anthony 'Cat' Barber had a strong game and was just two assists shy of a triple double. The point guard scored 17 points, added a career-high 12 rebounds and recorded eight assists.
Â
Abdul-Malik Abu and Maverick Rowan both reached double-digit scoring for the second-straight game. Rowan scored 15 points, while Abu added 14.
Â
Turning Point: A 3-pointer from Martin at the 11:32 mark in the second half, stretched NC State's lead to 14. The Pack's big men combined to score the team's next 11 points to give State a 67-50 lead with 8:05 remaining in the game. NC State continued to increase its lead, and led by as many as 23 points.
Gott Said It: "I thought we were obviously a little bit better than we were a couple nights ago. We've just got such a long way to go, but tonight we took a step forward, which was nice. Defensively we've got to learn a lot and offensively learn how to run an offense. As a team, we have to learn how to find each other and learn how to really get other guys great shots for their game. Everybody doesn't shoot the same shot. High percentage shots aren't the same for everybody, so we're learning all of those things, but tonight we did some things well."

Up Next: The Pack is back in action Wednesday, as it takes on IUPUI in PNC Arena at 7 p.m. The game will be carried on ESPN3.Â
