No. 1-ranked Virginia (14-1-1, 8-1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) was led by an outstanding individual performance from Makenzy Doniak, who scored four goals in the match.
NC State received a second-half goal from freshman Taylor Porter, a highlight-reel strike which was the first score of the midfielder's career.

"Virginia is a very good team," NC State head coach Tim Santoro said. "They (the Cavaliers) are regular-season ACC champions this year and were NCAA Championship runners-up last season.
"What frustrates me about this match is I didn't see enough desire from our team. That is something which we must change before Sunday (at No. 22 Duke)."
The Cavaliers earned a corner in the first minute and got on the board early, as Doniak scored her first goal 41 seconds into the contest. She then scored again in the eighth, 33rd, and 41st minutes to give her side a 4-0 lead heading into the break.
NC State (4-14-0, 0-9-0 ACC) responded early in the second half when Jenna Kalwa found Porter 25 yards from goal. Receiving the pass with her back to the goal, the freshman spun and unleashed a wicked strike which flew over the outstretched goalkeeper and pinged off the inside of the far post and into the net.
The Cavaliers used strong spells of possession to add to their lead as Morgan Reuther (63rd minute), Annaugh Madsen (74th), and Christiana Sullivan (85th) each found the back of the net to end the match at 7-1.
NC State ends the 2015 season at nearby No. 22 Duke on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. from Koskinen Stadium in Durham.
