DURHAM, N.C. – The NC State women's soccer team concluded its 2015 season at No. 22 Duke on Sunday afternoon, falling to the host Blue Devils by a final score of 5-0.
The first 25 minutes of the match were very even, but Duke (10-5-4, 4-3-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) found a spark from two quick goals by Chelsea Burns in the 27th and 28th minutes to take a 2-0 advantage. Ashton Miller and Taylor Racioppi doubled the advantage just a few minutes later, making it 3-0 and 4-0 in the 32nd and 41st minutes, respectively.
Caroline Gentry recorded NC State's (4-15-0, 0-10-0 ACC) first shot attempt, hitting one high of the target in the 58th minute.
Imani Dorsey added Duke's fifth goal in the 71st minute.
Brittany Stanko attempted two shots near the end of the match, firing one on target in the 86th minute and one wide of the near post in the 87th.
"This is a process," NC State head coach Tim Santoro said. "It's a frustrating process at times, but you've just got to remain patient and stick to your plan. We are getting to the point of our plan where we are very excited with the foundation we have returning and what we are going to be adding to it."
Four of NC State's five first-year field players earned a full season of experience, playing in all 19 matches during the 2015 season. The only one who did not—Maxine Blackwood—had a debut season limited to 10 matches due to injury. Of only four wolves who started all 19 matches, two (Hannah Keogh and Taylor Porter) were true freshmen. Keogh also earned individual distinction as the only player who was on the field for all 1,755 minutes of the year.
