SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The NC State women's soccer team dropped the finale of its three-match league road trip at Syracuse on Sunday afternoon, falling by a final score of 3-0.
Caroline Gentry, Jackie Stengel, and Alexa Allen all recorded shots on goal for the Pack during the match. Gentry led the Wolfpack with two total attempts.
"Disappointing. It was disappointing," NC State head coach Tim Santoro said. "We just didn't perform. Jackie (Stengel) had a good game, but we just didn't perform from the front to the back from the first minute to the 90th. This is a super disappointing result. We will just have to regroup and move on."
The Orange (5-10-1, 1-6-0 ACC) found the back of the net early in the match, scoring in the first minute when Emma Firenze beat freshman goalkeeper Sydney Wootten to make it 1-0. Stephanie Skilton then doubled Syracuse's advantage in the 21st minute following an assist from Maddie Iozzi.
Syracuse capitalized on an early rebound to start the second half, extending its advantage to three goals when Eva Gordon punched one in following a teammate's shot.
NC State (4-11-0, 0-6-0 ACC) had what appeared to be a good goal called back by the head official in the 64th minute. Freshman defender Hannah Keogh bent in a nice corner service and two Wolfpack attackers, the ball, and the Syracuse goalkeeper all tumbled into the net. The goal was called back and a foul was whistled on NC State. The assist would have been the first of Keogh's career. The freshman defender from San Diego has started all 15 matches for the Pack this season and is the only student-athlete to have played all 1,395 minutes of the season.
NC State will return home to Raleigh for three straight matches. Up next, the Wolfpack hosts No. 6 Clemson at Dail Soccer Field on Thursday, October 22. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. from Dail Soccer Field with the match to be broadcast live on ESPN3.
