State Concludes Road Swing at Virginia Thursday

RALEIGH – Preparing for its third road contest in the last four games, the NC State women’s basketball team returns to action on Thursday evening at Virginia. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. from John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville.

-All three of NC State’s starting guards average at least 10.4 points per game.

SCOUTING THE CAVALIERS
-Virginia enters Thursday’s game the owner of a 13-7 record which includes a 3-4 mark in ACC play.
-The Cavaliers have dropped three straight games, two of which were on the road.
-Virginia is 10-2 at home this season.
-The Cavaliers are led in scoring by Faith Randolph (18.2 ppg), Sarah Imovbioh (14.0 ppg & 11.1 rpg), and Mikayla Venson (11.0 ppg).
-Imovbioh is the fourth best shooter in the NCAA, connecting on 60.2 percent of her field goal attempts.
-The Cavaliers are coached by Joanne Boyle (fourth season). She has led Virginia to a 68-49 record.
SECOND HALF IMPROVEMENTS
NC State averages 55.3 percent more offensive rebounds in the second halves of games this season. In the final 20 minutes of games this year, the Pack has grabbed 146 offensive rebounds compared to 94 in opening halves. NC State also averages 4.0 more points in the final 20 minutes of games.
APPROACHING 600 WINS AND VERY ELITE COMPANY
With a career head coaching record of 595-185 (.763), Wes Moore is just five wins away from his 600th victory. If the mile¬stone is achieved within the Wolfpack’s next 20 games, Moore will become just the ninth coach in NCAA history to achieve 600 victories in 800 games or less. Among the notable coaches who have met this criteria: Geno Auriemma and Pat Summitt. 
STEADY PROGRESS
Sophomore forward Jennifer Mathurin’s last three games have marked the best stretch of her young career. The Montreal, Quebec, native has averaged 13.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and shot 13-26 (.500) from the field against Wake Forest, No. 12 UNC-CH, and No. 23 Syracuse. Mathurin’s point production has gone from 2.3 per game last season to 6.7 per contest this year. Her rebounding average has also improved, going from 2.4 per game last season to 4.4 per outing this year.
HOOPS 4 HOPE PRESENTED BY REX
Last season marked the ninth annual Hoops 4 Hope game at Reynolds Coliseum. The game was broadcast live on ESPN2 and saw $5 from every ticket sold go directly to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. During the second half, NC State administrators presented a check to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund for $45,643.
The 10th annual Hoops 4 Hope game will be played on Feb. 22 vs. Duke. The Wolfpack is on pace to crack the half-million mark in donations during this season’s game.
