Pack Gets ACC Qualifying Marks At Weekend Meets

BLACKSBURG, Va. and CLEMSON, S.C. -The Wolfpack track and field team wrapped up another successful weekend as the team earned seven more qualifying marks. Many of the distance runners opened their season with strong marks at Virginia Tech while the jumpers had a good showing at Clemson.
Bob Pollock Invitational: A group of jumpers and sprinters made the trip to Clemson, S.C., for the Bob Pollock Invitational. After some strong marks last year, the group returned to the venue to continue their success.
In the women's unseeded 60m dash, freshman Imari McLean set a new season high mark with a first-place finish of 7.79.
In Saturday's seeded 60m dash, Paisley Simmons finished with her second-best mark of the season of 7.58. She also picked up a first-place finish in the seeded 200m with a finish of 24.90.
#jumpcrew: Perry improved on last week's mark at the Virginia Tech Invitational to surpass her indoor collegiate best in the long jump for the second week in a row. Her leap of 21'1.50" currently ranks fourth in national lists.
On Saturday, Perry finished first in the 60m hurdles with a mark of 8.27, while Elizabeth Shuman and Jonathan Addison had strong marks in the high jump. Addison qualified for ACC Indoors with a jump of 6'8.75", and Shuman finished in second with her mark of 5'10.00".
Hokie Invitational: Friday was highlighted by season debuts and qualifying marks from Joanna Thompson, Samantha George, Jacob Thomson and Nick Link. A host of Wolfpack student-athletes finished with top-10 performances.
On Saturday, Grant Rivers earned a qualifying mark in the high jump with a mark of 6'6.25", while Will Krehnbrink, Abdur Rahman Kelly Clay Jones and Nicole Chavis all had top-five finishes on the day. Additionally, the 4x400 relay team of Acey Calhoun, Josh Gandy, Erin Jenkins and Dorian Williams finished with their second-best mark of the season at 3:18.60.
First Time Out: This weekend marked the debut for freshmen Ian Milder, Jacob Thomson, Megan Rempel, Isabella Smith and Link who finished in the top 15 of their respective events in their debuts for NC State. Also debuting for the Wolfpack was Giana Frontera and Bakri Abushouk.
Chavis' Streak: In the throws, Nicole Chavis was on top for the fifth event in a row with another first-place finish in the weight throw. SeQuoia Watkins was right behind her for second place which marks her ninth top-three finish of the season.
On Saturday, Nicole Chavis competed in her first shot put event on the year, finishing fifth with a mark of 44"1.25".
Up Next: Next weekend the Pack will travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., for the Hilton Garden Invite. The Pack will compete Friday and Saturday.
