Opening Weekend Continues For State

The NC State men's tennis team faces a quick turn around as the team prepares for a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon against Michigan State and NC Central. The Pack will open play versus Michigan State at 1 p.m. and play again at 6 p.m. versus NC Central.
Scouting Report:
State's difficult schedule continues as it will face its second nationally-ranked team on Sunday. Michigan State checks in at No. 63 in the most recent ITA poll. The Spartans are led by Gijs Linders who defeated six nationally-ranked opponents last season and is currently ranked No. 76. In doubles, the duo of Harry Jadun and John Patrick Mullane are ranked No. 56.
NC Central returns five players who finished the season ranked in the HBCU polls. Garisimov highlights the five returning Eagles after being named to the 2014 HBCU All-American team. During the fall season, Central won the 2014 HBCU Tennis National Championship. Freshman Kert Kilumets had a strong performance in the tournament, winning the singles Flight A competition.

Opening #STATEment:
Last time out, The Pack kicked off its dual season with a big win over No. 34 Northwestern. After going up 2-0, the Wildcats rattled off three straight victories to put the Pack in two must win matches. Simon Norenius and Thomas Weigel came up big for the Pack as they handled the pressure with composure and won in straight sets.
New Match Format:
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) has enacted the following new match format designed to shorten the duration of college tennis matches for the enjoyment of fans. The Pack will follow this new set of rules.
3 doubles matches, each 1 set, with a tie-break at 6-all.
5 min intermission between doubles and singles
6 singles matches, each 2 out of 3 sets, with tie-breaks at 6-all.
No-ad scoring in singles and doubles (if game reaches deuce, next point wins)
No warm-up with opponents in doubles or in singles
