NC State Opens Competition At VT Invitational

The NC State track and field team recorded nine top-five finishes in the first day of competition at the Virginia Tech Invitational. Alexis Perry and Jonathan Addison each recorded lifetime best marks.
Field Highlights
Nicole Chavis extended her win streak in the weight throw to four with another strong throw. Her throw travelled 66'1.50". Once again, teammate and fellow All-American SeQuoia Watkins proved to be the closest competition. She finished in second with a throw of 60'0.0"
In the men's weight throw, NC State placed two in the top five. Jule Rich threw for a season high with a mark of 61'11.00", while Joshua Davis finished in fifth with a throw that travelled 60'3.75".
In other field events, Javonne Antoine had an impressive outing after a 40'3.25" mark in the women's triple jump. The mark stands as her collegiate best.
Track Highlights
Perry had one of the best highlights of the night with a first-place finish in the final heat of the 60m hurdles. Her time of 8.24 is a lifetime best in the event. Addison also logged a lifetime best after finishing third in the 60m dash finals with time of 6.79.
In the women's 60m dash, Paisley Simmons ran to a second-place finish in the preliminaries to qualify for the final heat. In the final heat, she recorded her second-best time of the season after finishing with a 7.60.
A trio of Pack athletes had successful marks in the 500m run. Abdur Rahmaan Kelly finished 9th overall with a time of 1:05.32 while Jon Knight and Clay Jones finished first in their respective heats.
In mid distance, Knight and Jones recorded top-10 finishes in the 1000m.
In other track events, Brian Davis had a strong mark in the 500m finishing fifth with a time of 1:04.49, and Will Krehnbrink finished first in his heat and 10th overall in the 300m with a time of 35.00.

Events will continue at the Virginia Tech Invitational on Saturday beginning at 11:00 a.m. Relays, men and women's shot put, the 200m dash and various other events will feature NC State student-athletes.
