RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men’s tennis team is set to play in its second tournament of the 2014 fall season, as the squad will travel to the Olympia Fields Country Club Invite from Sept. 19-21, in Olympia Fields, Ill. The tournament will be hosted by the University of Illinois.
Choboy’s Chat
“This is going to be a great tournament for our guys,” said head coach Jon Choboy. “We haven’t been to this tournament before. There is going to be a lot of great competition for us to compete against.
“The tournament is played on clay and we’ve had our guys training on clay for the last couple of weeks at the University Club. Our guys are in a good place and I think they will do a good job.”
Previewing the Tournament
The Wolfpack will send four players to the tournament this weekend. Beck Bond will play in his second tournament in as many weeks after advancing to the blue draw singles final last weekend at the Duke Fab Four Invitational. Meanwhile, Nick Horton, Robbie Mudge and Thomas Weigel will each make their season debuts.
Last Time Out
The Pack opened its 2014 fall season at the Duke Fab Four Invite in Cary, N.C., where the tandem of Bond and Ian Dempster captured the doubles title in the black draw. In singles, Bond and Austin Powell advanced to the final in their respective draw, before falling in the championship match.
Record Watch
After recording 33 victories throughout the 2013-14 season, senior Robbie Mudge vaulted to sixth on the program's all-time charts in career double victories with 59. The tandem of Mudge and Dempster tied the school record last spring with 20 victories throughout the dual season.
