RALEIGH, N.C.- The NC State men’s and women’s cross country teams have been selected in the top three of the preseason Southeast Regional team rankings, announced by the USTFCCCA.
After both teams' third place finishes at the 2013 regional championships, the men’s squad has been selected as the 2014 preseason favorite, while the women’s team is picked third overall behind ACC rivals Virginia and Virginia Tech.
Both teams are listed in the top-30 of the preseason national poll as well. The men’s team will enter the 2014 season ranked 15th nationally, while the women are listed at No. 27.
The ACC is well represented in both the preseason regional and national polls. 13 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams are ranked in the top-15 among the nine regional divisions, while five men’s teams and six women’s teams rank among the top-30 in the national polls.
From the women’s side, All-American and three-time All-ACC selection Joanna Thompson is returning for her senior campaign, while two-time All-NCAA Southeast Region pick and two-time All-ACC select Graham Crawford will be returning to the Wolfpack men’s starting lineup.
