Three Players Earn NCAA Individual Championship Bids

RALEIGH, N.C. – The No. 26 NC State men’s tennis team will send three representatives to the 2014 NCAA Individual Championships, as announced Wednesday by the NCAA.
Junior Austin Powell earned an at-large bid to represent the Wolfpack in the 64-player singles field. In doubles, the tandem of junior Robbie Mudge and freshman Ian Dempster earned an at-large bid into the 32-team field.
A product of Muscle Shoals, Ala., Powell will make his first career appearance in the NCAA Singles Championship. For the season, Powell owns 23 victories including a team-best five victories against ranked opponents. In the fall, Powell advanced to the round of 16 at the ITA All-Americans, while defeating two top-25 opponents.
After posting 19 victories throughout the dual season, Mudge and Ian Dempster will compete in the doubles field of 32 teams. Currently second all-time in school history in wins by a doubles pair in a dual season, Mudge and Dempster has posted six victories over ranked opponents this season.
The 2014 NCAA Individual Championships will be conducted May 21-26 in Athens, Ga., the week following the conclusion of the NCAA Team Championships. The University of Georgia will serve as hosts.
As a team, the Pack received the No. 2 seed in the Athens Regional of the NCAA Team Championships. NC State will open play Saturday, May 10 at 10 a.m. against third-seeded Oregon with Georgia and Jacksonville State also competing in the regional.
