GREENSBORO, N.C. – Adding to her list of athletic and academic accolades, senior forward Kody Burke of the No. 14 NC State women’s basketball team (25-6) has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Kay Yow Scholar Athlete of the Year for 2013-14.
This marks the third straight season during which an NC State women’s basketball student athlete has won the award, as Marissa Kastanek claimed the honors in 2012 and 2013.
As a part of earning this award, Burke (3.937 GPA in business administration) was also named to the 2013-14 ACC All-Academic Women’s Basketball team, the entirety of which was announced on Friday morning. This marks Burke’s fourth straight season on the ACC All-Academic Team.
ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters. The award is based 60 percent on academic achievement and 40 percent on athletic accomplishment.
To be eligible for consideration for the academic squad, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.0 cumulative average during her academic career.
The Wolfpack continues play at the 2014 ACC Tournament in the semifinal round vs. No. 2 Notre Dame on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. from the Greensboro Coliseum. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3 and ESPNU.
