No. 14 Wolfpack Hosts Cavaliers Sunday Afternoon

RALEIGH, N.C. – The No. 14 NC State women’s basketball team (22-5, 9-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) returns to action at home on Sunday afternoon, hosting the visiting Virginia Cavaliers at Reynolds Coliseum. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Sunday’s game will be broadcast live on GoPack All-Access. Fans can also catch Patrick Kinas and Rachel Stockdale call the action live on WKNC 88.1 FM.
Sunday’s game will feature Coca-Cola headband giveaways, vouchers for $10 game play money with purchase of $10 from Dave & Buster’s, and a postgame autograph session with the Wolfpack seniors.

Senior forward Kody Burke scored a career and game-high 30 points on 11-16 shooting at No. 7 Duke. The Wolfpack battled back from a 24-point second half deficit, pulling within four points, but would ultimately lose by a final score of 83-70.

SCOUTING THE CAVALIERS
-Virginia enters Sunday’s game the owner of a 13-13 record which includes a 6-7 mark in ACC play.
-The Cavaliers have lost three of their last four games.
-Virginia is very balanced offensively, with Ataira Franklin (13.3 ppg), Faith Randolph (12.7 ppg), Sarah Imovbioh (12.1 ppg), and Kelsey Wolfe (10.5 ppg) all averaging double figures.
-The Cavaliers have the best turnover margin in the conference this season at a mark of +5.3 per game.
-Virginia is coached by Joanne Boyle, who is in her third season at the helm of the program. She has posted a career coaching record of 283-142.
NC STATE - VIRGINIA SERIES HISTORY
-Sunday’s game will mark the 71st all-time meeting between NC State and Virginia.
-Virginia holds a 38-32 lead in the series.
-NC State won the last meeting between the two teams, 80-59, in Raleigh on Feb. 28 of last season.
-The Wolfpack is 17-16 in 33 prior meetings between the teams at Reynolds Coliseum.
ACC TOURNAMENT APPROACHES
The 2014 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament will be played in Greensboro from Wednesday, Mar. 5 to Sunday, Mar. 9. With a 9-4 record in Atlantic Coast Conference games, NC State has ensured that it will receive at least a bye into the second round (games played Thursday, Mar. 6) of the tournament.
HISTORIC FROM DISTANCE
NC State made 11 three-pointers in the loss at No. 7 Duke on Feb. 20, bringing its season total to 206. This is a new program record, breaking the prior mark of 205 set by the 2011-12 team.
MOST ACCURATE SEASON IN PROGRAM HISTORY?
Should she keep up her incredible shooting percentage (68 percent), senior center Markeisha Gatling could set a new program standard at the end of the season. The prior best single-season shooting percentage of 64.4 percent was set by Rhonda Mapp during the 1988-89 campaign.
IMPROVEMENT FROM THE LINE
Gatling shot 69 percent from the free throw line last season. This year she is operating at a 74 percent clip and has hit 18 of her last 20 free throw attempts.
30-POINT PERFORMANCE
Kody Burke’s 30-point performance at No. 7 Duke on Feb. 20 was a game and career high. It was the first 30-point game by an NC State student-athlete since Myisha Goodwin-Coleman scored 30 against Georgia Tech on Feb. 17 of the 2012-13 season.
Burke doubled her career high in made three-point field goals at Duke, hitting six on eight attempts.
CHERISH POSSESSIONS
Eight of the student-athletes on NC State’s roster have posted a positive assist-to-turnover ratio this season. Myisha Goodwin-Coleman leads the way with a mark of 2.4 assists to each turnover.
THE ELITE 800 CLUB
NC State is just two wins away from 800 in program history. Once the Wolfpack reaches the 800-win mark, it will be just the 29th program in the history of NCAA Division I women’s basketball to do so.
THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE REYNOLDS COLISEUM
Since the program’s first season in 1974-75, Reynolds Coliseum has served as a fortress for NC State. The Wolfpack has posted a home record of 416-122 (.773) in 39+ seasons in the historic facility.
HOME DOMINANCE
On Feb. 6 vs. Wake Forest, NC State picked up its 13th home win of the season. This ties for the third most home wins achieved in a single campaign. The 1981-82 team set the program standard, going 17-3 at Reynolds Coliseum.
