
Track & Field Competes at Iowa State Classic

AMES, Iowa - Five members of the NC State track and field team competed in the Iowa State Classic on Friday, with three taking part in the women's 5,000 meter run and two participating in the men's 5,000m event.
In her third event this year Joanna Thompson led the way for the Wolfpack women, as the junior from Knoxville, Tenn. finished in 11th with a time of 16:28.84. Halsey Merritt, also competing for the third time this season, crossed the finish line in 36th place (17:11.16), while Samantha Norman (17:50.61) added a 45th-place finish to the State ledger.
In the men's 5,000m event, which featured 10 All-Americans, 13 sub-14 minute performers and a 2012 Olympian, Wolfpack senior Matt Sonnenfeldt came in with a 22nd-place result with a time of 14:14.70. Michael Mansy, State's other competitor in the event, finished in 38th (14:54.38).
The 2014 Iowa State Classic features 50 teams from more than 20 conferences, with more than 100 All-Americans and numerous professional athletes competing in this weekend's event.
