RALEIGH - The NC State women's basketball team (9-3) picked up its fourth straight win on Friday evening, defeating the visiting Davidson Wildcats by a final score of 82-66 inside Reynolds Coliseum.
The win improved the Wolfpack to 21-3 at home under second year head coach Wes Moore.
Len'Nique Brown-Hoskin led the way for the Wolfpack with a game and career-high 25 points, shooting 7-11 (.636) from the field and 7-9 (.777) from the free throw line. She also recorded 10 rebounds for her second career double-double.
Carlee Schuhmacher (18 points) and Miah Spencer (14 points) joined Brown-Hoskin in double digit scoring.
Hannah Early had a strong game for Davidson (3-7), scoring 20 points. Teammates Mackenzie Latt (16) and Dakota Dukes (14) joined her in double figures.
As a team, NC State shot 25-65 (.385) from the field and 26-32 (.813) from the charity stripe. Davidson shot 28-63 (.444) from the field and 6-16 (.375) from three-point range. The Pack outrebounded the Wildcats by a 47-33 margin.
The first half featured three ties and four lead changes in what was a very back-and-forth opening 20 minutes. State led by as many as nine points (29-20) with 8:14 to play in the frame before the Wildcats would battle back to take a 37-36 lead when Dukes hit a jumper with 23 seconds remaining. Brown-Hoskin would sink a deep three 19 seconds later to give the Pack a narrow 39-37 lead heading into the halftime break.
Davidson never reclaimed the lead, but pulled within one point on two occasions in the second half. Holding a 43-42 advantage with 17:42 to play in the contest, the Wolfpack ripped off a 15-2 run over the course of the next 7:55 to firmly grasp a substantial 58-44 lead.
From this point on, the Wildcats would never cut the deficit to fewer than 10 points as the Pack cruised through a strong second half to earn the 82-66 win.
Schuhmacher and Brown-Hoskin were clutch for the Wolfpack in the final 20 minutes, scoring 13 and 11 points, respectively. The two combined to shoot 12-14 from the foul line in the second half.
NC State will return to action when it travels to Radnor Township, Pa., to face Villanova on Dec. 30. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in the Wolfpack's final nonconference game of the season.
