One tenth of a second short. A last-second shot was waved off as the NC State men's basketball team dropped a hard-fought 55-54 contest to the Wofford Terriers on Sunday.
NC State (8-2) appeared to win the game after Trevor Lacey drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer. The Wolfpack celebrated and a delirious Reynolds Coliseum erupted. After an extensive review process, the final shot was waved off.
Gott Said It: "First of all, I told their coach and a number of their players that they really played their hearts out. They did a great job and played like a veteran team just like we thought they would. Obviously, we came up maybe one tenth of a second short, and really that was it. We had some offensive possessions where we had good shots. The ball just went in and out. The last couple of minutes we just couldn't seem to get it to go through the net. They executed and scored there on a nice pass and a good finish. That's a tough one for us. We lost to a good basketball team and a veteran team. We just have to make sure we improve and get better from that one."
The NC State backcourt was efficient again as Lacey, Ralston Turner and Anthony 'Cat' Barber all scored in double figures. Lacey led all scorers with 18 points. BeeJay had a strong night in the paint as he gathered eight rebounds and four blocks. The Pack shot well from the charity stripe, going 12-13 on the night.
Up Next: NC State looks to rebound when they welcome Tennessee on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. The Pack will be back in PNC Arena for the contest.
