The night before he was set to graduate from NC State, Ralston Turner scored a career-high 33 points to help the Wolfpack to an 83-72 win over Tennessee.
It was a night where former SEC players tormented the SEC's Volunteers. Turner and Trevor Lacey, former LSU and Alabama players respectively, combined for 53 points on 15-for-26 shooting and 11 made 3-pointers. The win lifted the Pack to 9-2 on the year heading into a big match-up Saturday night vs. West Virginia in New York City.
Turner's career night came on 9-for-18 shooting and eight made 3-pointers, one shy of Rodney Monroe's record for treys in a game.
Gott Said It: "Well, nice win, we are excited about it and I thought our guys did a lot of things throughout the game that were important factors. We talked a lot about handling their pressure. They like to make the game a little 'helter skelter'. We handled the ball without turning it over a lot. The other part of the game we did well was keeping them off the glass. They didn't get a whole lot of second-chance points. They got a couple lay-ups, but obviously Ralston Turner was absolutely spectacular. It is a great two days for Ralston. At 1 p.m. tomorrow he graduates from NC State. It is a heck of a two days for the young man. It was a good win."
Anthony 'Cat' Barber was solid at point guard, dishing a season-high eight assists with just one turnover. NC State also out-rebounded Tennessee 36-27 and shot 26-for-34 at the foul line.
Up Next: NC State will take on West Virginia Saturday, Dec. 20 at Madison Square Garden in New York. That game, part of the Gotham Classic, is scheduled to tip off at 9:30 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN2.
