Wolfpack Outlasts Bears in Exhibition, 70-52

RALEIGH - The NC State women's basketball team recorded a victory in its only exhibition game of the 2014-15 season Friday night at Reynolds Coliseum, defeating the visiting Lenoir-Rhyne Bears by a final score of 70-52.
Sophomore Miah Spencer led the Wolfpack in scoring with 15 points on 7-13 shooting from the field. Spencer also recorded a game-high four steals and pulled down five rebounds. She was joined in double figures by junior Carlee Schuhmacher, who scored 14 points on the night (6-10 FG).

As a team, State shot 27-74 (36.5 percent) while the Bears were 22-59 (37.3 percent) on the night. The Wolfpack forced 23 Lenoir-Rhyne turnovers and capitalized on these miscues, scoring 27 points directly from them.
Four players recorded perfect numbers from the free-throw line: Chloe Jackson went 4-4 while Krystal Barrett, Schuhmacher and Jennifer Mathurin added two free throws each.
The Pack led early and through much of the first half before Lenoir-Rhyne earned its only lead of the game (17-16) with 7:58 to play in the frame. The Pack battled back to tie the score 20-20 before going on a 10-2 run from the 6:24 to the 3:42 mark, giving NC State its highest lead (eight points) of the half.
Lenoir-Rhyne proceeded to close the gap to two points though with a 6-0 run to close out the half, as the Wolfpack took a 30-28 advantage to the locker room.
Spencer led the Wolfpack in first half scoring with eight points on a 4-6 shooting. Spencer also led the team in steals with two, and tied with Mathurin for a team high of four rebounds.
State began the second half with a 6-2 run, extending its lead by six. The Wolfpack never allowed Lenoir-Rhyne to tie or take the rest of the second half, reaching its highest lead of 20 points twice in the final five minutes of the game.
NC State will officially open its season on Friday, Nov. 14 at Reynolds Coliseum against Tennessee State at 7 p.m.
