RALEIGH, N.C.- Blue chip recruit Bianca Moldovan has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to join the NC State women's tennis program for the 2015-16 season, as announced by first-year head coach Simon Earnshaw.
Moldovan, the highest ranked American prospect and as well as the first American blue chip recruit to sign with the Wolfpack, is Earnshaw's first signee for his incoming 2015 class. The blue chip designation is given to the premier recruits in a class, usually around 25-30 prospects.
"With three seniors on this year's team, it's absolutely paramount for Gina [Suarez-Malaguti] and I to make a strong statement with our initial recruiting class. Bianca Moldovan is exactly the type of player to provide that immediate impact both on and off the court as the highest-ranked American recruit in program history," Earnshaw said.
"She has extremely high goals and expectations for herself, is a very physical and athletic player and has strong character which resonates with the program's direction and identity moving forward. I couldn't be happier and proud to welcome Bianca to NC State; this is a very exciting time to be a part of the Wolfpack!"
The Livonia, Mich., native currently ranks 17th among the 2015 class in the national polls and has climbed as high as sixth in the rankings during her career. Moldovan also ranks fourth in the Great Lakes region and first in the state of Michigan in her class.
In the United States Tennis Association (USTA) national standings, Moldovan checks in at No. 29 with an overall record of 43-20 against some of the country's best competition, earning 10 wins against fellow blue chip recruits.
"I'm very excited about the coaches at NC State and the potential of the program," Moldovan said to tennisrecruiting.net. "With three scholarships available for 2015, a head coach that has a ton of experience and has won nine NCAA championships in Division II and an assistant coach that had a great collegiate career finishing No. 4 in the national rankings, I believe NC State will soon become a top-ranked program where I can reach my fullest potential as a player and as a person."
