RALEIGH, N.C.- Recently, Gopack had the opportunity to catch up with Megan Moye of the NC State women's cross country team to find out more about who she is.
The redshirt sophomore from Moseley, Va. is one of the four returning All-NCAA Southeast Region selections from the 2013 season. She is a communications major with a concentration in public relations.
Her favorite thing about being a member of NC State's cross country team: "My favorite thing about being a member of NC State's cross country team is the friendships I've been blessed with making these past two years. The team is my family away from home, and without them my experience so far at NC State would not be the same."
Why she chose NC State: "My senior year of high school, I wasn't exactly sure where I wanted to go. When I first met Coach Henes and Coach Geiger I loved how genuine they were, and I could see myself being coached by them. When looking at the program and the team, NC State stood out to me the most. I knew that when I made my decision to commit here, this is where God wanted me to be."
Someone on the team that pushes her to be a better athlete: "It's hard to choose one teammate who pushes me because we all motivate each other every day. If I had to choose one though, I would say Kenyetta Iyevbele. Her and I both share the same love for shorter distances, and ever since freshman year I've been in her training group for track workouts.
"Being able to train beside her and trying to keep up with that long stride is a huge motivator. She is so sincere towards her teammates and is always giving it her all on the track and on the course. I know with her last year here she will accomplish even bigger things then before. I desire to follow in her footsteps and be a leader for someone on our team like she is to me. "
One thing she wants to accomplish before she leaves NC State: "Before I leave NC State I wish to be able to help my teammates achieve an ACC title, a regional title and even a national title. Training with these girls everyday we share one thing- the desire to represent the Wolfpack the best we can."
Her favorite place she has traveled to with cross country: "This is only my second cross season traveling with the team, so I haven't been to many places yet. I would say my favorite so far is when we traveled to Charlottesville, Virginia for the regional championship race. Although it wasn't a long trip I loved being close to home and seeing all my family there. The course, even though it was hilly, was actually where I felt the best out of the whole season.
"This is one of my most memorable races because my previous teammate, Emily Pritt, got me through it that day. She showed me that I had All-Region in me, and running side by side with her is a feeling I'll never forget."
What she enjoys when she's not in class or practicing: "When I'm not in class or practicing, the first place I go to is a coffee shop. I can't start the day without a coffee. I also love goofing off with my teammates and finding something adventurous to do."
