NC State Atop Leaderboard Following First Day of Wolfpack Intercollegiate

RALEIGH - The NC State men's golf team had a very strong day to open play at the 2014 Wolfpack Intercollegiate on Monday, finishing the first two rounds of the tournament in first place with a two-round score of 566 (-2).
State played a very balanced first two rounds, shooting a team score of 283 (-1) each time through the Lonnie Poole Golf Course. The Wolfpack is currently three strokes ahead of East Tennessee State (2nd, 569) and nine strokes ahead of No. 32 East Carolina (3rd, 575).
Jacob McBride (pictured below) led the way for the Wolfpack, carding a two-round score of 139 (-3) to end the day tied in second place. He and his career-best score of 65 (second round) were in very good company near the top of the leaderboard, as teammates Carter Page and David Cooke each finished the first day of action tied for seventh with scores of 141 (-1). 
Stanhope Johnson (T33) and James Chapman (T52) rounded things out for the first of State's two teams at the tournament, shooting scores of 148 (+6) and 151 (+9), respectively.
In his career Wolfpack debut, freshman Carter Simon pieced together a very solid two-round performance, carding matching scores of even-par 71 to end the day tied for 12th place among the field of 93 golfers. He helped paved the way for NC State's "Red Team" to finish in eight place among the 18-team field. Teammates Colby Lyles (T27), Wilson Day (T27), Andrew Decker (T83), and William Herring (T90) were also on this squad.
The final round of the tournament will be in tee-time format on Tuesday morning. NC State's Red Team will tee off from the first hole in ten-minute increments beginning at 8 a.m. with the other five Wolfpackers beginning from the first hole at 9:40.
