RALEIGH – The NC State women’s soccer team fell in its final home match of the 2014 season, losing to No. 2 Florida State by a final score of 4-0.
Dagny Brynjarsdottir scored a brace for the visitors and helped pace an offense which ranks among the top 10 in the NCAA. Her goals in the 38th and 63rd minutes were preceded by tallies from teammates Cheyna Williams (second minute) and Emma Koivisto (23rd).
“We competed. I thought we competed more today than we have in the past few games,” head coach Tim Santoro said.
“I haven’t seen UCLA (current NCAA No. 1), but Florida State is as good as any team in the country. I think they are the best team in the ACC because they are complete. It’s good for our team to see that up close because that helps us set a goal for where we want to be down the line.”
The Wolfpack would test FSU goalkeeper Cassie Miller on three occasions, but was ultimately unable to find the back of the net. Caroline Gentry and Alexa Allen each recorded two shots throughout the course of the 90 minutes. Two of Gentry’s were on frame.
NC State’s best chance of the match came in the 66th minute when Allen dispossessed a Florida State (15-1-1, 8-0-1 ACC) defender. Allen was able to create space with the ball and unleashed a hard shot from 12 yards out. Miller had to punch it high before catching it, but was able to prevent the attempt from doing any damage.
The Wolfpack (2-13-2, 0-9-0) will close out ACC play on the road Saturday, Nov. 1 at current No. 20 Clemson. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
