NC State's men's and women's tennis programs recently added a cutting-edge video system that covers all 10 courts at the Isenhour Indoor Tennis Center and the Dail Outdoor Tennis Stadium.
The Wolfpack partnered with Dartfish, the world's leading video analysis software system, to deliver this tremendous player development tool to its student-athletes.
Match and practice footage is tagged and time-stamped to identify key performance indicators. For instance, coaches and players can analyze each break point, all second serves, forehand approach shots or any other element of a match. The system accurately analyzes match-defining moments, illustrates what patterns a player favors on pivotal points, and determines if those patterns are successful to improve player outcomes.
Additionally, the system delivers live, online streaming of all home matches through GoPack.com so that fans can enjoy NC State tennis matches from the comfort of their homes all over the world.
"A key driver in my decision to join NC State was the support of the administration for every sport and our new video system is a perfect example of that commitment," said women's tennis head coach Simon Earnshaw. "Rather than the cumbersome process of editing hours of film, we will be able to immediately analyze a players tendencies post match and have access to data when it's much more pertinent and fresh."
"I think this is the future of tennis, being able to instantaneously interpret statistics and data to provide insight, much the same way it's being used in other sports. It's important that we keep pace with every improvement to provide our student-athletes the best possible environment for player development."
Dartfish has worked with the International Tennis Federation, the French Tennis Federation, the Swiss Tennis Federation, Tennis Canada, the Argentine Tennis Federation, the USPTA, IMG Academies, and Major League Baseball, among its clients.
"We're thrilled to be utilizing this technology," said men's tennis head coach Jon Choboy. "We do a lot of video analysis with our players and this system provides nearly limitless possibilities. It will help us work smarter."
"I'm also excited for our players' families and our fans across the country and around the globe who can now enjoy watching all our matches throughout the year."
Senior Austin Powell, NC State men's tennis
"We're making an effort to really incorporate statistical analysis into our match preparation. We can review tactical elements and an assortment of things from our matches that will really benefit us as the season progresses. Our matches will really become a total learning experience."
"Also, for our international players, this gives families and friends an opportunity to watch. It's a great addition for our teams and programs."
