JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – For the third straight day, weather had a significant effect on the quality of play at the 2014 Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. Shortly after Saturday’s delayed second round was completed on Sunday morning, rain washed away the entire third round of the tournament, making all scores official through the first two rounds.
No. 35-ranked NC State placed 10th in the field of 15 teams, shooting a two-round score of 581 (+5). The Wolfpack finished ahead of Tennessee, UNC Wilmington, Villanova, Army, and Kent State.
Fresh off his 2014 Wolfpack Intercollegiate victory, junior David Cooke was the Pack’s top finisher at the competition. Cooke shot a two-round score of 144 to end at even par and tied for 24th in the field of 84 golfers.
Teammates Carter Page and Stanhope Johnson were not far behind, tying for 30th in the field with matching scores of 145 (+1). Page dropped five strokes from his first-round 75 to shoot a 70 in the final round while Johnson remained consistent, carding scores of 72 and 73 his two times through the course.
James Chapman (T40) also finished within the top half of the field, shooting a 147 (+3) at the Blackthorn Club. He improved one stroke between the first and second rounds.
Participating in just his second career tournament with the Wolfpack, freshman Carter Simon tied for 71st in the field with a score of 153 (+9).
The Wolfpack’s fall season has come to an end. NC State will begin play in the spring at the 2015 Puerto Rico Classic on Feb. 22.
