RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men’s and women’s cross country teams announced their schedules for the 2013 season, as announced Wednesday by head coaches Rollie Geiger and Laurie Henes.
NC State will open its season Sept. 20 with the annual Wolfpack Invitational, which will be held at the WakeMed Cross Country Course in Cary, N.C. The Wolfpack swept both the men’s and women’s races last season.
On Sept. 27, the Pack will make its first road trip of the season to Minneapolis, Minn., for the Roy Griak Invitational, prior to a three-week break. On Oct. 19, the squads will compete for the final time before the championship season begins at the annual Wisconsin Invitational in Madison.
The ACC Championships will be held Nov. 1 in Winston-Salem, N.C, before NC State returns home to host the Three-Stripe Invitational on Nov. 9 in Cary. The 2013 NCAA Southeast Regional will be held Nov. 15 in Charlottesville, Va.
After a one-year hiatus, the NCAA Cross Country Championships will return to Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Ind., for the ninth time in the last decade. Last year’s championship meet was held in Louisville, Ky., for the first time in history.
Tthe Wolfpack’s men’s team hopes to make its eighth-straight trip to the NCAA Championships behind the leadership of two-time All-American and 2012 ACC Performer of the Year Andrew Colley and redshirt sophomore Graham Crawford, who was also an All-ACC and All-Region performer last season.
After redshirting its entire freshman class in 2012, the Pack also welcomes another highly-talented group of newcomers, comprised of Bakri Aboshouk, Sebastian Hanson, Nick Link and Jacob Thomson, that could make its presence felt this season.
The women’s team brings back a deep squad that hopes to build on last season’s performance. The team is led by junior Joanna Thompson, who was an All-ACC and All-Region performer in each of her first two seasons for NC State. Samantha George, the 2012 ACC Freshman of the Year and an All-ACC performer and redshirt senior Samantha Norman, who also earned All-ACC honors last season, hope to give the Wolfpack a strong core heading into the fall.
If Thompson, George and Norman sounded like enough, 2009 All-American Emily Pritt and 2010 All-American Laura Hoer will also return to give the squad a tremendous amount of veteran leadership.
All in all, the Pack appears primed for a successful 2013 cross country campaign.
