Hill, Colley, Shepherd, Taylor Punch Bids to Eugene

GREENSBORO, N.C. – On the third and final day of the NCAA East Regional, the NC State track and field team saw four more athletes qualify for the final rounds of the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Saturday evening at the Irwin Belk Track at North Carolina A&T University.
The finals will take place June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore., at the University of Oregon.
With a trip to his very last NCAA Final on the line, redshirt senior and six-time track All-American Ryan Hill saved the drama for the final lap in the first heat of the men’s 1,500-meter semifinal. Hill sat in eighth place entering the final 400 meters of the race before making a late charge to the front of the field to finish second with a time of 3:47.77.
In the men’s 5,000-meter race, redshirt junior Andrew Colley earned his first bid to the NCAA outdoor finals with a fifth-place finish in the first heat of the event. Colley crossed the finish line in 14:01.41 and placed ninth overall between the two combined heats.
Redshirt sophomore Tremanisha Taylor recorded a 52’ 1.00” (15.87m) throw in the women’s shot put to finish 12th in the event and claim the last qualifying spot for the finals. Taylor, a two-time All-ACC performer on the outdoor circuit, also qualified for the final round in 2012.
On her very first jump, senior Karimah Shepherd recorded her best mark of the day for a sixth-place finish in the women’s triple jump with an outdoor-best 42’ 2.00” (12.85m) leap, en route to notching her second NCAA Finals bid on the weekend. The Chesapeake, Va., native placed fourth in the long jump Friday evening.
Shepherd was a double All-American in the long and triple jumps during the indoor season.
