RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State senior jumper Danielle Adams won the women’s high jump with a personal-best mark, capping a successful weekend for the NC State track & field team at North Carolina A&T’s Aggie Invitational Saturday afternoon.
Adams, whose previous best in the women’s high jump was a 5’ 9.75” mark set back in 2011, recorded a 5’ 10.75” (1.80m) leap over the horizontal bar to take first place in the event. The Jacksonville, N.C., native also tied teammate Lacey Shuman for the best jump by a Wolfpack jumper this season.
The Pack was not done in the jumps, as senior Jazueline Daniels took top honors in the women’s triple jump with a 40’ 7.25” (12.41m) measurement – her second best performance in the event for the outdoor season. Senior Kris Kornegay-Gober also took first place in the men’s high jump with a 7’ 0.50” (2.15m) leap.
After posting a 13.63 qualifying time in Friday’s prelims, freshman Alexis Perry won gold in the women’s 100-meter hurdles for the second time on the outdoor campaign with a 13.70 clocking in Saturday’s finals. Perry also won the event at the Kent Taylor Invitational at UNC on Mar. 23.
Redshirt sophomore Tremanisha Taylor continued her dominance in the women’s shot put with a first-place finish (15.05m), while taking second in the women’s discus (46.57m). Taylor has now won three shot put events this outdoor season, which includes victories at the 49er Classic and the UCF Invitational.
Redshirt freshmen Nicole Chavis (44.76m) and SeQuoia Watkins (44.59m) took third and fourth place, respectively, in the women’s discus, while Chavis took third in the women’s hammer throw at 48.15m and Watkins claimed fourth (45.33m).
A group of distance runners took to the track at the Paul Hilton Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C., where freshman Samantha George, running unattached, was the first to cross the finish line in the women’s 1,500-meter run at 4:29.67. Newcomer Megan Moye, also running unattached, finished third with a time of 4:32.63.
Redshirt freshman Erin Foshee took third in the women’s 800-meter run (2:16.78), while newcomer Clay Jones took fifth in the men’s 800-meter race as an unattached runner at 1:55.89.
NC State will next compete when it hosts the 2013 ACC Championships Apr. 17-20 at the Paul Derr Track.
