AIKEN, S.C. - The NC State men's golf team is one shot out of the lead after two rounds on Monday at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate.
The Wolfpack is at 11-over 571 after rounds of 284 and 287 at the par 70, 6,617-yard Palmetto Golf Club. South Carolina leads by one stroke at 570, while Augusta State and Virginia are tied for third at 574.
NC State shared the first-round lead with Augusta State at 4-over 284.
Freshman Chad Cox is tied for fourth at even-par 140 to lead the Pack after 36 holes. He was tied for the first-round lead after a 2-under 68, before posting an afternoon score of 72.
Junior All-American Albin Choi, winner of three-consecutive tournaments, is tied for seventh at 1-over 141 after rounds of 69 and 72.
Choi’s second round 2-over 72 is only the fourth time in 23 rounds he has posted a score above par this season, and the first occurrence this spring covering three events.
Senior Mitch Sutton is tied for 17th at 5-over 145 (75-70). His even-par 70 in the afternoon was the low score for NC State in the second round.
Junior Logan Harrell is tied for 25th at 6-over 146, and sophomore James Chapman is tied for 38th at 8-over 148.
A 6-under 64 by Virginia’s Mac McLaughlin in the second round gives him the first-day lead at 5-under 135, while Matt Atkins (USC Aiken) and Matthew NeSmith (South Carolina) make up the only other two golfers under par at 4-under 136 and 3-under 137, respectively.
NC State will tee off in Tuesday's final group alongside South Carolina and Augusta State between 10:20 and 10:52 a.m., in the final round of the 54-hole event.
