Women's Tennis Heads South for Weekend in Charleston

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State women's tennis team will make its first road trip of the spring season when it travels to Charleston, S.C., this weekend. The Wolfpack will meet Charleston Southern on Friday, Feb. 15 at 9:30 a.m., before taking on College of Charleston at noon on Sunday, Feb. 17.
The squad is coming off a pair of 7-0 home shutouts to begin the season, including a Jan. 31 win over East Carolina and a victory over UNC Greensboro on Feb. 7. Aside from winning all 12 singles matches over the course of the two matches, the Pack has won five of the six doubles matches in which it has competed.
Sophomore Elisha Hande is 2-0 while playing in the No. 5 spot in dual singles action, winning both of her matches in straight sets. In the four total sets played, Hande has won three of them by a 6-0 margin.
The doubles team comprised of Hande and sophomore Nicole Martinez is 2-0 playing at the No. 2 spot in the lineup, while sophomore Sophie Nelson and senior Chloe Smith are also 2-0 in the No. 3 spot.
Charleston Southern enters Friday's match with a 1-1 overall record, after a 6-1 win over South Carolina State to open the season was followed by a 5-2 setback at Stetson.
College of Charleston owns a 2-1 mark on the season, including victories over Winthrop and Wisconsin, with its lone loss against Wyoming. The Cougars will host Kansas before Sunday's match against the Wolfpack.
