Pack Completes Play on Day One of Invitational

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The NC State men's tennis team completed play on day one of the Illini Invitational, held in Fort Myers, Fla. The Wolfpack had three doubles teams and eight singles players in action on Friday.
Dave Thomson and Sean Weber competed as a doubles pair, dropping their match to Juan Spir and Vikram Hundal of Georgia Tech, 8-3. Robbie Mudge and Simon Norenius fell to Nathan Rakitt and Juan Mellan, 8-5, while Austin Powell and Thomas Weigel stumbled against Eduardo Segura and Garrett Gordon, 8-6. Trey Carter and Rafael Paez fell Colin Edwards and Anish Sharma, 8-0.
In singles play, Weber defeated Michael Alford of Florida 7-6, 7-6. Florent Diep topped Powell, 7-5, 6-4, while Mudge came up short against Stephane Piro 6-2, 7-5. Thomson fell to Bob van Overbeek 6-3, 6-4, and Weigel was tripped up by Bill Federhofer 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. Norenius dropped his match to Gordon Watson 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, while Paez stumbled against Luke Johnson 6-2, 7-6.
Action will get underway on Saturday Jan. 12 at 10 a.m. with doubles play, followed by singles play at 11:30 a.m.
