RALEIGH, N.C. - First-year NC State softball coach Shawn Rychcik will begin his first full-team practices of the fall on Monday at the Dail Softball Stadium.
Rychcik and his new staff of hitting coach Katie Grimes and pitching coach Courtney Oliver have spent the last three weeks doing individual workouts with the 15 players on the Wolfpack roster.
The team will have approximately 20 practices in the fall. It will also host a doubleheader on Sunday, Sept. 23, against Longwood, beginning at noon at Dail and participate in a 10-team at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex on Oct. 14-15.
"We have had three good weeks getting to know each other," said Rychcik, who was hired after eight successful seasons at Boston University in July. "Over this period, I've gotten to see some of our strengths and some areas where we need to work.
"It's been a productive time, but I am really looking forward to us taking the next step, which is bringing our whole team together."
The Wolfpack returns senior outfielder Bethaney Wells, who had 11 homers and was fourth in the ACC with a .567 slugging percentage last season, and ACC Freshman of the Year Renada Davis, a shortstop who set school records for batting average and on-base percentage in her inaugural collegiate campaign.
The Pack finished the 2012 with a 23-31 record, including a 5-16 mark in the ACC.
Rychcik and his team open the season in February, making consecutive trips to Florida for early-season tournaments. The full schedule will be released later this month.
The Wolfpack coaching staff will also host a one-day clinic that have three sessions, focusing on hitting, defense and pitching. For more details, visit here.
