Pulgar Competes at NCAA Championships

ATHENS, Ga. - NC State senior Jaime Pulgar, ranked No. 34 nationally, will play seventh-seeded and seventh-ranked Dennis Nevolo of Illinois on Wednesday at noon in the first round of the NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Championships at Georgia's Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
Pulgar, a three-time All-ACC selection, owns a 20-5 record on the season for the Wolfpack, which finished its season with a 20-10 record in dual matches. This is his first time in the 64-player individual field.
It will be the final collegiate and amateur event for Pulgar, who recently earned his degree in business administration. Following the event he plans to return to his native Spain nd begin pursuit of a professional tennis career.
In his four seasons at NC State, Pulgar compiled 75 singles wins and 60 doubles victories, which both rank in the top five all time for career victories.
Nevolo, a native of Gurnee, Ill., was the Illini's top player en route to a 19-8 overall and an 8-3 Big Ten record. He compiled a 17-7 dual record, with his last loss coming to top-ranked Steve Johnson of No. 1 Southern California during the third round of last weekend's NCAA Team Championships.
