RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State netter Joelle Kissell will cap off her phenomenal sophomore season this week at the NCAA Singles Championship in Athens, Ga. Kissell will face Tayler Davis of California at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 23, in the first round of the tournament.
An All-ACC selection, Kissell is ranked No. 31 in the nation. She compiled a singles record of 15-9 during the spring, and defeated eight ranked opponents, including No. 16 and No. 20.
48th-ranked Davis owns a 12-7 record on the year.
With a win, Kissell would advance to face either No. 6 Christina Sanchez-Quintanar of Texas A&M, or Alabama's Alexa Guarachi, who is ranked No. 52. Kissell has not faced Sanchez-Quintanar this year, but she was victorious over Guarachi in a fall tournament earlier this season.
A defeat over Davis would also make Kissell only the second player in school history to score a win in the NCAA Singles Championship.
