RALEIGH, N.C. – Following its longest road trip of the season, in which it won one of five matches against ranked ACC opponents, the No. 36 NC State men’s tennis team returns to its new home, the Curtis and Jacqueline Dail Outdoor Tennis Stadium, for weekend matches against ACC foes Boston College and Maryland.
The two matches kick off a streak of five ACC matches in 10 days to close out the regular season for head coach Jon Choboy’s team.
On Friday at 2:30 p.m., the Wolfpack will look to continue its unbeaten streak against Boston College. State is 9-0 in this series against the ACC’s newest member. The Eagles picked up their first ACC win of the season and their first league victory since 2008 with a 5-2 victory over No. 51 Miami last Saturday. On Sunday, the Eagles fell 5-2 to No. 61 Dartmouth.
On Saturday at 2 p.m., the Pack will host No. 75 Maryland, against which it has a 35-28 series advantage. Maryland is coming off its first ever victory against No. 51 Miami, its only league win of the season.
Between the doubles and singles matches on Saturday State will host an Easter egg hunt for young fans. There will be one egg that includes a special prize: a free week at NC State Tennis Camp later this summer.
Other prizes will also be available.
The Wolfpack is 12-1 overall this season at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center, with 10 of those victories at the Andy Andrews Indoor Tennis Courts and two coming at the new outdoor stadium. The Wolfpack’s lone home loss was in its only ACC home match, a 4-3 setback against No. 6 Duke.
Choboy’s team will play its final ACC road match of the season when it travels to Winston-Salem to face Wake Forest on Wednesday, April 10 at 2:30 p.m. The Wolfpack will close out its regular season with matches against Georgia Tech on April 13 at 3 p.m. and Clemson on April 15 at noon.
Through 22 matches this spring, NC State has five players who have won at least 10 singles matches. Senior Jaime Pulgar and freshman Robbie Mudge are 15-4 and 15-5, respectively, and freshman Austin Powell is 14-3.
Seniors Dominic Hodgson and Julian Sullivan both have double-figure win tallies at 10-7 and 11-6, respectively.
