RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State senior men’s tennis player Jaime Pulgar of Madrid, Spain, joined freshman teammate Austin Powell of Muscle Shoals, Ala., in the latest Campbell’s/ITA NCAA Division I men’s tennis rankings, which were released on Thursday.
Powell (8-0) remains undefeated for the Wolfpack (10-1 overall), while Pulgar (8-1) had his only loss of the season against sixth-ranked Eric Quigley of Kentucky.
Pulgar, who was not ranked in the preseason rankings that were based on the fall tournament results, entered the list at No. 110. Pulgar spent the summer and fall playing on the ITF Futures Tour in India, Kuwait and his native Spain and did not compete in any college fall tournaments. He won four doubles events in the ITF tour and is ranked No. 833 in the world in singles competition and No. 459 internationally in doubles play.
Powell was ranked No. 100 in the first individual rankings of the year, which were released on Jan. 3. He remained in the season’s second poll at No. 124 of 125 ranked players.
The newest rankings are based on the first six weeks of dual-match play. There are no updated team rankings this week. The Wolfpack was ranked No. 51 in last week’s poll.
