GREENSBORO, N.C. - NC State junior Ryan Hill, who ran the fastest time ever by an American collegiate runner in the indoor 3,000 meters on Saturday night, was named the ACC Co-Performer of the Week, along with Virginia senior Marcus Robinson.
The Hickory, N.C., native shattered his own ACC and NC State record on Saturday night at the Flotrack Husky Classic by running the 3K in 7:43.08, the fourth fastest time ever posted by a collegian. He broke the mark of 7:50.78 he set last year at the same event and earned his second consecutive trip to the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 8-9 in Nampa, Idaho. Although the time is the fastest ever run by an American collegian in the event, it is not recognized as the collegiate record, since it was run on an oversized track.
In his first race of the season, the Virginia Tech Elite two weeks ago, Hill became the first NC State runner ever to run a sub-four-minute mile, posting a mark of 3:58.33 to set a new Rector Field House record.
Robinson had the NCAA's best mark this season and broke the ACC indoor and school record in the triple jump at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., with a leap of 16.63 meters. He currently ranks ninth on the IAAF World Rankings.
