CARY, N.C. - NC State men's tennis team completed play at the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional Championships on Saturday. The Wolfpack competed in three doubles matches, dropping two and winning one.
The duo of senior Dave Thomson and junior Sean Weber opened the day with a win over Winthrop's Dyan Cornerford and Peter Nagovnak, 8-6, in doubles play. The win earned the pair a matchup with Chris Mengel and Fred Saba of Duke, ranked No. 16 nationally, in the round of 16. Thomson and Weber battled throughout the match, but fell short 9-8 (2).
Sophomore Austin Powell and freshman Thomas Weigel also competed on Saturday, taking on UNC's Esben Hess Olesen and Nelson Vick. The Pack duo dropped a close decision 8-6 and were ousted from tournament play.
The Wolfpack will return to action on Nov. 11 at the National Indoor Championships. The location and start time of the event has not yet been announced.
