RALEIGH, N.C. - A total of nine NC State men's tennis players will be in action this weekend in two different tournaments.
Seniors Dominic Hodgson and Julian Sullivan will Charlottesville, Va., for the UVa Ranked +1 Tournament, in which is open to all ranked players and one teammate.
Hodgson is ranked No. 105 among college players. A total of 48 players from 11 schools are in the field and play begins play in three doubles brackets and three singles brackets on Friday and goes through Sunday at the Snyder Tennis Center.
Seven additional players - including newcomers Austin Powell of Muscle Shoals, Ala.; Robbie Mudge of Mooresville, N.C.; and Beck Bond of Meriden, Conn. - will travel to Athens, Ga., for the 44th-annual Southern Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Georgia at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
The oldest fall tournament in the country will feature 160 players from 26 different schools, playing in three singles brackets and two doubles brackets.
Powell and Mudge made their college debuts last weekend, with Powell taking third place in the Blue bracket of Duke's Nike Fab-4 Invitational and Mudge taking seventh place in the White bracket. This weekend, they will compete in both singles action and as a doubles team.
Also playing in the Southern Intercollegiate will be junior Matt Thomson, junior Will Rollinson, sophomore Ivan Sanchez Gomez and sophomore Sean Weber.
In other doubles action, Bond and Sanchez Gomez will play together, as will Thomson and Weber.
"This is a good tournament with a lot of strong competition," said veteran head coach Jon Choboy. "There will be a lot of teams that are coming up from Florida that we don't usually see, so this is a chance to see how we stack up against different competition."
There is no live scoring from either event, but GoPack.com will have all results and updates in doubles and singles from both tournaments. Periodic updates will also be available on Twitter at @PackMensTennis.
