RALEIGH, N.C. - Kellie Harper's third season as head women's basketball coach at NC State will be an exciting one with 16 home games and a late-December trip to Hawaii to highlight the 2011-12 schedule, as released by the Atlantic Coast Conference on Tuesday.
"I'm excited about releasing our schedule," said Harper. "I believe the challenges that we have, both in and out of conference, will make our team better.
"I'm excited for our fans for the number of quality home games we have this season. Our team is motivated and ready for the challenge!"
The Wolfpack's schedule will once again be a challenging one with 20 games against teams that advanced to either the 2011 NCAA or WNIT postseason tournaments, with 10 coming from each tournament.
No fewer than seven games are scheduled for television, including three on the ESPN family of networks, and four on the Regional Sports Network. The home contest with Wake Forest on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 5 p.m., will be the annual "Hoops 4 Hope" game on ESPN2.
ESPNU will carry two games this season - at Miami on Thursday, Jan. 5 at 7 p.m., and at North Carolina on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 1:30 p.m.
RSN games include road dates at Wake (1/16) and Virginia Tech (1/29), and a pair of home games against UNC (1/22) and Florida State (1/27).
Beginning this season, the conference schedule has moved to a 16-game format from the previous 14-game slate. The Pack will play home-and-home dates with Boston College, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina and Miami.
NC State will also host Florida State, Virginia and Maryland, while the remaining three road conference games will be at Clemson, Duke and Virginia Tech.
For the first time in 11 seasons, the program will take a trip to Hawaii and participate in the Pepsi Rainbow Wahine Invitational Dec. 28-30 in Honolulu. State will take on Florida Golf Coast, Alcorn State and Hawaii in the tournament.
Other featured match ups in the non-conference schedule includes three consecutive Sunday contests in the month of December against Southeastern Conference foes South Carolina (Dec. 4), Alabama (Dec. 11) and Vanderbilt (Dec. 18).
The Wolfpack opens the season for a second-straight year with an “Education Day” at noon. This year’s opponent will be Southeast Missouri State on Friday, Nov. 11. Additional home games include UNC Wilmington (Nov. 16), Jacksonville (Nov. 23) and Richmond (Dec. 15).
Road non-league games consist of TCU (Nov. 19), Creighton (Nov. 27) and Northwestern in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge on Tuesday, Nov. 30.
NC State has scheduled North Greenville for an exhibition on Nov. 6 in Raleigh.
All non-televised home games will be broadcast through GoPack.com All-Access. Other television dates and times will be announced at a later date.
The ACC Tournament is back at the Greensboro Coliseum for the 12th straight year and will be played March 1-4 with all 11 games being televised for the first time in league history. The first round and quarterfinals will be on the regional sports network and the two semifinal games (ESPNU) and the championship game (ESPN2) will be on the ESPN network.
