RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State men's tennis netters Jaime Pulgar and Ivan Sanchez Gomez have both been named to the 2011 All-ACC Academic Men's Tennis Team as announced today by the conference office. The honor marks the first appearance on the team for both student-athletes.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.0 cumulative average during his academic career.
"We're very proud of both Jaime and Ivan for their success in the classroom," said head coach Jon Choboy. "As a head coach, you look to build your program around student-athletes that are dedicated to success in the classroom just as much as they are on the tennis court. Jaime and Ivan both carry that quality."
This past season Pulgar, a rising senior, collected All-ACC honors for the second consecutive year, en route to a No. 115 final national ranking in singles play. Despite missing just under a month of the conference portion of the schedule due to injury, he posted 10 wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles for the Pack. Those decisions included three ACC wins over ranked opponents.
In his first season in Raleigh, Sanchez Gomez won 13 spring singles bouts and posted five wins in conference action at the No. 3 and No. 5 spots.
