After five seasons with NC State, softball pitching coach Leigh Ann Genetti has resigned to spend more time with her family, head coach Lisa Navas announced today. Genetti gave birth to her first child, a girl, Ayla Rae Genetti on May 22.
"It's hard to believe that Leigh Ann has been with us for five years," says Navas. "I hate to see her go, but understand her decision to spend more time with her husband, Frank, and daughter, Ayla. The time commitment to the program and her family would be overwhelming. She did an excellent job with our pitching staff over the years, and I will miss her dearly."
Under Genetti's tutelage, Wolfpack pitchers have enjoyed quite a bit of success, sitting atop the ACC in ERA consistently. In 2007, Genetti's first season in Raleigh, pitcher Abbie Sims garnered ACC Player of the Year and NFCA All-America honors after throwing four no-hitters. Over the next three years, Lindsay Campana carried Genetti's pitching staff, compiling 632 strikeouts and earning the best ERA in NC State softball history, a 1.52 mark.
Pitchers coached by Genetti own the career records at NC State. All five of the former student-athletes in the top five of best ERA, wins, shutouts, complete games, innings pitched and strikeouts were all coached for at least a year by Genetti.
The Genetti family will continue to reside in Raleigh.
Navas and the NC State softball program will begin a search for Genetti's replacement immediately.
