Senior Q&A with Alicia Abbott

NC State softball completed its regular season this past weekend, April 30 through May 1, taking 2-of-3 games from ACC-foe Virginia. On Saturday, between doubleheader contests, the Wolfpack program took time to celebrate the 2011 senior class. The individual achievements of Alicia Abbott, Alyssa Allbritten, Bridget Desbois and Alyssa Ishibashi were recognized by head coach Lisa Navas and the entire coaching staff. Following the weekend, GoPack.com asked each member of the class to reminisce about her time at NC State, and share her plans for future endeavors.
Abbott's answers are the third in a series of four.
Why did you choose NC State?
I love the spirit all of athletics that carries throughout the institution. The support we get is incomparable to any other school.
What's the best part of playing in the ACC?
The best part of playing in the ACC is knowing that the people you are playing against are some of the best competitors in the game.
What's your best memory at NC State?
My best memory on the field is winning the series against UNC in the 2010 season. My best off the field memory is going to Pack football games with my teammates.
What was your favorite part of senior day? Hardest part?
The speeches given to us by our teammates and the jerseys we received were both equally phenomenal. The hardest part is realizing how good it feels to play a game on home turf and know you won't be able to do it again.
What's your favorite part of traveling? Favorite city to go to?
My favorite part of traveling is the time we get to bond together and grow as a team. My favorite city to go to was Boston.
What advice do you have for your current teammates knowing what you know now?
The game is meant to be fun. Enjoy it for what its worth and let it come to you. The game is a relationship and the one who controls the power of that relationship is the one who works hard and gives it their all, but cares less about the result.
Give some advice to incoming freshmen.
Time goes faster than you can imagine. Make sure the memories you make are of the things you enjoy with the people you love and make them good and worth the reflection.
What's your major/what do you want to do with it?
My major is communication and while technically I don't plan on using the specific degree to land a job, it will be useful on my pursuit to becoming a great college softball coach.
What are your plans for next year? Next year I plan on staying around to finish up a couple of classes and help out with the team for another year.
