RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State softball closes out the home portion of its schedule this weekend with a three-game ACC series against Virginia at Curtis and Jacqueline Dail Softball Stadium.
Action is slated for Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m., and will conclude Sunday with a single game at noon. On Saturday, the Wolfpack program will be honoring Alicia Abbott, Alyssa Allbritten, Bridget Desbois and Alyssa Ishibashi, the 2011 senior class.
The Wolfpack has played well of late, earning wins in six of its last eight contests, including a series victory over league-foe Virginia Tech last weekend.
Virginia, on the other hand, has dropped its last four games and was swept by Georgia Tech in conference action a week ago.
Desbois' .324 batting average and 44 hits pace the Pack offensively, while Bethaney Wells' nine home runs and 30 RBI are tops on the squad in 2011.
Freshman pitcher Kayla Cox not only sports NC State's top ERA (3.01), but she also leads the team in innings pitched (163.0), appearances (31), wins (13) and strikeouts (207).
Stephanie Harris leads Virginia at the plate with a .319 batting average, three triples and 26 RBI. Melanie Mitchell, who owns a 3.60 ERA, has been the Cavaliers' ace in the circle this season.
Last season, the Wolfpack dropped 2-of-3 contests to Virginia in the two teams' meeting in Charlottesville, Va. However, NC State still owns the series advantage, 12-11.
Each game in the series will be broadcast live on GoPack.com All-Access, as well as Gametracker.
Following this weekend's action, the Pack will travel to Atlanta, Ga. to compete in the ACC Championship May 13-15.
