
Bhambri Goes 2-0 as Pack Falls to #3 Duke

RESULTS
RALEIGH, N.C. --- 28th-ranked Sanaa Bhambri won both of her matches, but #38 NC State fell 6-1 to #3 Duke Friday in Pullen Park.
Teaming with Sandhya Nagaraj as the 11th-ranked doubles duo in the country, Bhambri enjoyed an 8-7 win over Duke’s pairing Fahoum/Mar.
In singles competition, Bhambri scored a straight-sets win over 74th-ranked Ellah Nze 7-6 (7-1), 6-2 to put NC State (7-2, 1-1 ACC) on the board.
Bhambri’s matches were NC State’s only wins on the afternoon, but the Pack held strong in several other matches against some of the nation’s best competition.
Senior Lenka Hojckova took a set from ninth-ranked Reka Zsilinszka, playing in the number three spot. Hojckova eventually fell in a tiebreaker 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-1).
Tatiana Illova went toe-to-toe with the nation’s 71st-ranked player, Liz Plotkin, dropping a 7-5, 7-5 decision.
83rd-ranked Nagaraj drew 39th-ranked Nadine Fahoum, and came up on the short end of a 6-4, 6-3 result.
Freshman Christy Sipes had her 8-0 start snapped by 55th-ranked Mary Clayton 6-0, 6-1. Illova and Hojckova suffered their first doubles loss of the spring, 8-4, against Nze/Kahan.
The Pack returns to action Wednesday, March 9 in Hilton Head, S.C. against Winthrop at 1 p.m.
