RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State softball hits the road Wednesday, March 16 taking on the defending Southern Conference champion Elon Phoenix in a doubleheader at 4 and 6 p.m. in Elon, N.C.
The Wolfpack is 6-5 all time versus the Phoenix, having claimed the most recent six contests after dropping the first five. The two programs last met in 2009, when the Pack earned victories by a combined score of 17-4.
NC State went 3-1 this past weekend in the Wolfpack Challenge, claiming victories over Fairfield, Maine and James Madison. The Pack offense exploded in the win over James Madison, where three players smashed homeruns en route to the 8-4 NC State victory.
Elon (13-5) began Southern Conference play last weekend, taking a 2-1 series victory over the College of Charleston. The Phoenix are lead offensively by Tomeka Watson, who boasts a .355 batting average and has notched 22 hits. Lauren Taylor sports a 1.47 ERA in the circle and has picked up eight of the squad's 13 wins this season. The three-time SoCon Pitcher of the Week has only given up 12 earned runs in the 2011 campaign.
Following the Pack's action at Elon on Wednesday, the squad will prepare to open up ACC play at home on Saturday, March 19 against Florida State at 1 p.m.
