The final game of the regular season sends the Wolfpack to in-state rival Wake Forest on Sunday for a 2 p.m., matchup in Winston-Salem, N.C. Both teams are tied at 4-9 in the ACC - a win would boost its seeding for the pending ACC Tournament that will begin next Thursday in Greensboro, N.C.
NC State is looking for its first four-game conference winning streak since 2007. Over the last three games, the Pack has averaged 83.0 points per game. Leading the way has been junior Bonae Holston and senior Amber White. Holston is averaging 20.3 points per game, while White has recorded 19.0 points and 5.7 assists per outing.
Holston was nearly unstoppable for a long stretch of Thursday's 80-69 win over Boston College. She was 13-of-19 from the field and scored 28 points in the game. The Newport News, Va., native has scored 1,153 points so far in her career, the most by an NC State player in their junior season since Chasity Melvin had nearly 1,500 points through her junior campaign of 1996-97.
Also in the win against the Eagles, White and freshman Myisha Goodwin-Coleman jockeyed for the Pack's best all-around performance of the night. White contributed 17 points, six assists, and six rebounds, while Goodwin-Coleman added 10 points, a season-high eight assists, and five rebounds. Each starting guard had a pair of steals.
NC State shot 50.0 percent from the field for the fourth time this season. Kody Burke added 11 points for the Wolfpack, and three blocks to up her season total to 54, the sixth most in school history.
In the first meeting between the two schools back on Jan.10, White's 22 points on 11-of-16 shooting pushed NC State to an 80-59 win at Reynolds Coliseum. Burke added 15 points from the bench and Holston scored 14.
NC State dominated Wake Forest in the paint, outscoring the Deacons 36-20, and claiming a 14-7 advantage on the offensive glass. The Wolfpack also held a 23-6 scoring advantage on the fast break and a 12-1 edge on second-chance points. On the defensive end, NC State forced 19 turnovers and converted those into 20 points.
The Wolfpack is 25-4 all-time on the road against Wake Forest.
