NEW ORLEANS – NC State redshirt freshman Andrew Colley was named to the 56-member USTFCCA NCAA Division I Men’s Cross Country All-Academic team.
A total of 56 student-athletes representing 42 institutions compose the 2010 group. Oklahoma led all schools with four honorees while Richmond, Villanova, and Wisconsin followed with three each.
Four of the top ten finishers at the 2010 NCAA Cross Country Championships earned All-Academic status, including Chris Derrick (Stanford), German Fernandez (Oklahoma State), Colby Lowe (Oklahoma State) and Mohammed Ahmed (Wisconsin).
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have either earned USTFCCCA All-America status or finished in the NCAA region’s top 15 (or top 10 percent) in 2010.
Colley, a redshirt freshman from Williamsburg, Va., had four Top 10 finishes last season, including both the ACC Championships and the NCAA Regional. He was 56th at the NCAA Men’s Cross Country Championships in November.
Derrick was named the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Men’s Scholar Athlete of the Year for the 2010 cross country season by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
