GREENSBORO, N.C. --- NC State senior Sanaa Bhambri has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week after defeating the nation’s 10th-ranked player and playing a part in a doubles victory over the nation’s 21st-ranked team, according to the conference office Tuesday.
The 32nd-ranked Bhambri scored a third-set tiebreaker victory over Southern California’s No. 10 Danielle Lao in the Wolfpack’s narrow 4-3 loss to the 18th-ranked Trojans in the opening round of the ITA National Indoor Regional.
The New Dehli, India, native followed up that win with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Auburn’s Caroline Thornton as the 46th-ranked Wolfpack blanked the 59th-ranked Tigers 7-0 in the ITA Regional consolations.
Bhambri also helped NC State secure the doubles point in the Auburn match as she teamed with Sandhya Nagaraj for an 8-4 win over No. 21 Jacqueline Kasler and Paula Schippers at the No. 1 slot.
The conference honor marks Bhambri's first as a collegian, and the first this season for the Pack.
NC State heads back to the courts on Sunday, February 6 at noon hosting College of Charleston at the Isenhour Tennis Center.
